Natural Building: Resources

Much depend on the project; this is only suggestions.

Materials:

Rough and fine sand, clay-rich soil, logs, branches, willow, straw and reed will get us started on most potential projects. It is useful to also have access to some commercial products such as final earthen plaster, hemp or flax insulation, reed panels, some milled lumber and boards.

Tools, small:

Depending on size of group we need a fair selection of hand tools, from saws, peeling knives, chisels to shovels and spades.

We need also need a fair selection of electrical power tools of a good quality (like Makita/Dewalt), as well as a selection of 18volt battery tools. I expect that my tool collection may complement that of SJH.

Tools, larger:
Anything goes. Chainsaws, table saw and planer, mobile mill, large earth mixer, compressor and sprayer, fork-lift and tractor with bucket; all can be utilized depending on project. I would bring my large earth mixing/spraying tools.

Plaster tools:
Ideally we have a good selection of good quality trowels, (including some japanese trowels), to learn how to do fine decorative plasters.

Theory:

A diverse collection of natural building film, library of natural building, the earth and straw curricula and educational aids. Budget  for printing A3 and A2 posters, photo copies etc.

IT:
Digital projector and screen, internet connectivity.
Digital moisture meter and thermometer to 1000 degrees would be a good bonus.

Micl:
Lots of buckets and walls to practice on...
